Scott J. Chafin Jr.
LAJ 2023-24 President
Scott Chafin’s practice is focused exclusively on plaintiff’s trial work. He lives in Shreveport and practices throughout Louisiana.
A 2020 recipient of the LAJ President’s Award, he has served on the LAJ Board of Governors, Council of Directors, and Executive Committee. “My greatest satisfaction comes from helping injured people get the resources they need to care for themselves and protect their family long after their case is over,” Chafin said.
Chafin believes in going beyond the practice of law to make a difference in the communities his firm serves. He is the fundraising chair for the North Louisiana Federal Bar Association, and since 2013 has organized an annual fundraiser for airmen stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City.
In addition, his private scholarship fund, “Louisiana Heroes,” awards annual scholarships to children of Louisiana teachers, coaches, police officers, and first responders.
Chafin has served as a speaker for LAJ CLE programs, presented one of the first online LAJ programs related to COVID, and has contributed content to Louisiana Advocates. He has also been an active member of the American Association for Justice.
Chafin earned his J.D. degree from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and served on its Moot Court Appellate Board and Mock Trial Team.
He and his wife, Emily, have three children. He coaches his sons’ baseball teams and travels to watch his daughter in competitive ballet and tap competitions.
