Scott R. Bickford

Scott R. Bickford is a principal at Martzell, Bickford & Centola, A.P.C., New Orleans. He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Tulane University where he is presently director of Trial Advocacy, adjunct professor of law, and a frequent lecturer. He also sits on the law school’s Dean’s Advisory Board and supports future lawyers with an endowed scholarship.
A longtime member of LAJ, he is the 2019 recipient of the LAJ Public Service Award. Since 2014 he has been LAJ’s board member to the American Association for Justice and is the recipient of AAJ’s Distinguished Service Award and two Wiedemann & Wysocki awards.
Bickford is both a civil and criminal trial attorney whose practice focuses on representing injured workers and their families in cases involving complex maritime accidents and toxic exposures. Lately, he represents in various multi-district litigations and in pharmaceutical bankruptcies (notably Purdue) thousands of children born opioid dependent.
His prior representations include the families and crew members of the Deepwater Horizon and workers suffering mesothelioma. Through his efforts, he has secured millions of dollars in compensation for his clients.
He continues to represent governmental and private landowners in environmental land-damage cases. He also has been engaged as counsel in numerous election disputes in courts across Louisiana including Louisiana’s Supreme Court and before the United States Senate. He previously represented the Louisiana Democratic Party in project “Protect the Vote.” Bickford is the former chair of the hospice Project Lazarus, a master of Tulane Inn of Court, and a frequent lecturer to other lawyers and judges.
